Know what I’d like to do??

May 28, 2017 by Christina 7 Comments

John and his new beast of a truck pulling a monster of a camper!

Our story begins

Dad has an idea

One night several years ago as we sat talking together as a family on our screened-in porch, John said, “Know what I’d like to do?  I’d like to get rid of all our stuff, sell our house, and go all over the country in an RV for a year.”

“Hmmm…that’s a nice idea!” I responded, ” Kids, would anyone else like to share a dream they have?”

“No,” John chuckled, “I’m serious!”

Mom is stopped in her tracks

We have learned that we are at our best when we dream together!

I got quiet.  Real, real quiet. John had talked like this before–generally during times when we were frustrated trying to organize all our stuff in our cluttered single family home.  I had always tried to make him understand that “a woman and children need a home.” But this was the first time that he had included the phrase for a year.

The dream is born

Shortly after this family discussion, the Lord warmed my heart to the idea, I jumped onto the bandwagon, and John and I began to do what we do best–dream together.

Check out new home!

The next few years included a lot of researching, attending RV shows, visiting dealers, and finally deciding on a model that met the needs of our family.   In January 2017, we stepped into our new home for the first time–an Open Range 427BHS.

My very first view of our new home. It was really BIG!

A little bit in shock. Is this really MINE??

God bless you and all your travels.

We took a 5-week trip across America in 1988 in a conversion van when our sons were older teens and a couple of them were finishing up college. We still share memories of that wonderful time.

ENVY: (1) painful or resentful awareness of an advantage enjoyed by another joined with a desire to possess the same advantage.
Well, this ain’t me (exactly) But you guys do provoke me to jealousy.

Our own Bucket List notwithstanding – I do wish you all immense joy and safety in all your travels as sojourners on the planet.

Wow! that is one amazing way to spend a year. Will you have internet when in the trailer? will you be able to take and receive calls, emails, and texts? Does the trailer have a generator, or a chargeable battery? How often will you have to stop to refill gas, water, and food?

Happy trails to you all! I’m not sure why I hadn’t thought to ask this question before, but will John have a job this year, or is he taking the year off?
